Well your digestive system starts with you mouth - the actual chewing of your food along with the saliva starts breaking down the sugars/proteins so that it can moved down your esophagus with ease into you stomach where it down broken down even further your stomach acid so that when the small intestine gets ahold of the food it takes in the nutrients and converts them into energy- the rest of the "waste" is carried through the small intestine to the large intestine through the colon out of the anus.
