My granddad is the same, but he isn't even 70 yet. I don't think it can be treated. Don't know the reason for it either.
Just fart when you need to and expect everyone to accept it as a feature of old age. My 40-year-old uncle is proud of his farts, and believes it causes tummy pains if he holds them in!

You are taking a fiber supplement? Fiber in the diet is digested by live bacteria in the small intestine, the result is gas.
Try two things other than some gas-x
1. Cut back on the fiber supplement (if your on one), you might be getting too much in your diet and with the supplement.
2. Eat yogurt (activia) to get the right amounts of the good bacteria going inside your intestine.
Hope that helps.

This doesn't really have anything to do with age. My brother is 34 and he suffers from the worst gas I've ever seen. He has a hard time controlling it in public and he even passes gas in his sleep. I have no idea what could be causing this for him.
I think you'd have to tell us more about your diet. You might even be lactose intolerant.

Liquid chlorophyll and pineapple every day will both promote a healthy digestive environment and should help your gas problem. Digestion problems are very common and in particular in elderly people.
