Why dogs are able to digest bones? In my place, people usually feed their dog with the leftover of thier food, including bones. the bones are hard n sharp when it is crashed into small pieces. however, the dogs appear to enjoy those bones so much, yet non of the symptoms of illness surface after each meal of bones. is it bcoz of the special ability of the digestive system of the dogs?

well it depends what type of dogs. i have two small dogs and they are not allowed to have bones. because they can't digest them all the way. and choke.

shards of bone will get stuck in the dogs rectum if the dog has blood in it poo, take him to the vet. dogs cannot digest bone, and just because they love it is no reason to give it to them. dogs like the taste of anti freeze, but it will kill them if they get a hold of it. perhaps the people who are giving the dogs bones on a daily basis are ignorant. and don't know the harmful effects, and just for the record it dosn't matter what size or type dog you have bones are not good for dogs. just because it hasn't happened yet don't mean that it won't happen at all.

Cooked bones are very dangerous for dogs. Cooked bones are very brittle and they splinter. They are NOT able to digest them and the bones can puncture the intestinal tract causing serious complications. Raw bones are much softer and easier to chew.
