What is wrong with my brother's digestive system?Here is some background: he is 29 years old, and drank soda as a young child and is now still drinking it. He used to drink coffee at about age 7 and drank that for a couple years. (I know, weird). He has been a vegan since about 1997, but added dairy products to his diet about 2 years ago. He smokes a large quantity of marijuana. Here are his symptoms: after he defecates, he gets pain in his stomach and mid-chest and he feels nauseous. He gets cold sweats. He dry-heaves and/or throws-up. He burps a lot. This happens every couple of months. His last episode just ended today, and the pain lasted for two days. It was his worst episode to date; he couldn't even keep his soup down- he upchucked immediately. When he went to the emergency room in the past, they just gave him painkillers, Pepcid AC, and Maalox and said that it was heartburn. He is going to see a specialist, but we just wanted to know if any one out there had any thoughts about this in the meantime. Thank you!

Maybe Crohn's or ulcerative colitis...he probably needs to modify his diet.

My first guess is an ulcer.
My second guess is possibly stomach or lung cancer.
Being as how it is a serious medical condition, I would stop guessing and have some tests done. If it IS a form of cancer, you are going to want to know as soon as possible.

unhealthy diet. really it shouldn't be the marijuana doing it. to throw up on it isn't usual. maybe it could be some kind of disease in his brain though. marijuana does cut off oxygen to the brain like caffeine. It could be some kind of peptic ulcer too. Don't really know, the symptoms are too common for other diseases.

Maybe acid-reflux or indigestion (heartburn). It's weird that it happens after he poops. Any blood coming out there? Maybe he has an ulcer.
Also, he might have some sort of parasite, like giardia. Has he ever traveled in developing countries or otherwise drank unpurified water?
