Toddler with digestive problems? My 2 1/2 year old son has been having unformed stools 1-2 times a day for a few weeks now. He has no other symptoms and is not sick nor dehydrated. The doctor is unsure and only has suggestions. He also has eczema so he is supposedly allergy prone and had pyloric stenosis corrective surgery (thickening of stomach muscle) as an infant which was successful. Has anyone had this happen to their children or have insight on this that may be helpful? Toddler's diahrrea, food allergy, mal absorbtion syndrome? The only allergy I noticed was to hot cereals and it is very mild, but not with other grains (cold). Thanks ahead
Please no guesses. Only anwers with some kind of experience that can relate to this. Thanks
I've also looked into celaic at the time of posting this and am still holding it a consideration, his symptoms mimic so many digestive disorders. I am pretty sure his rash is eczema and not the celaic related rash however as I also considered this and looked into it. He has had this rash much longer than the symptoms and it responds to treatments for eczema and has no blisters or blisterlike appearance. I look forward to more suggestions. Thanks

Hi. I would HIGHLY suggest he be tested for Celiac Disease. Unfortunately testing at his age is often inconclusive. But it wouldnt hurt to try the blood test first and then perhaps a GI doc will want to do an endoscopy wit biopsy. Or u could do the at home genetic test.
The stomach issues, 'eczema' and already your mention of foods leads me to wonder if its not Celiac. If it is, all you need to do is keep him on a gluten free diet. Not easy at first, but since he's so young the transition will be easier than say doing this when he's a teen.
The eczema your seeing could be DH, a rash associated with Celaic disease. One way you could find out would be to take him to a dermatologist and if they can biopsy the skin rash, and they determine its DH, then he absolutely had Celiac and no need for further gastro testing is needed. (The correct name for DH is found at www.csaceliacs.org along with tons of other info.)
