Mineral component in hydrochloric acid required for digestion?

Posted by J M
Hydrochloric acid is composed of hydrogen and chlorine (HCl). It is considered a 'mineral acid' because part of it is made from a non-organic atom: chlorine, a mineral. Organic molecules contain carbon (more or less) and are biologically-produced; minerals are produced geologically.

So Chlorine is your answer.
