How can I help my wife from constipation? She's been occasionally suffering from constipation. Is this not because she is already 57 years of age? Is it because at our age, digestive system starts to malfunction? And could constipation go to cancerous case?

Maybe she needs to take a stool softener like SURFAK. You can get them across the counter. Hope this helps.

A high fibre diet would be good. Lots of fruits and veggies also. Lots of water!!

But if she is constantly suffering - make sure she goes to a doctor.

Any waste left in the bowel overly long can contribute to disease. Perhaps she should look into her diet, and choose more non-constipating foods. She could have an allergy to something she is eating... fiber always helps with constipation (nature's "broom")

For temporary relief a stool softner will work. But for long term she needs to change her eating habits. She needs to eat more foods high in fiber and drink lots of water and if she has some time maybe take a 30 min walk or exercise of her choice at least 3 times a week. And yes not haveing a regular bowel movement can possibly lead to colon cancer.
