Genetically modified foods are causing diseases? And we can't tell which products have them?!?Apparently GMO foods are causing disease and health problems across our country, but since GMO food is not labeled as such we don't pay attention. The following have been reported to come directly from eating this stuff that is in our grocery stores right now:
Infertility
Immune system problems
Gastrointestinal problems
Organ damage
Dysfunctional regulation of cholesterol and insulin
Accelerated aging
How could this be? a highly respected alternative health medical doctor Dr. Mercola wrote an article on this. He said:
"...one of the most obvious clues about the danger of GMO foods are that just about EVERY species of animal that is offered a GMO food versus a non-GMO food will avoid the GMO one. Many times they will do this to the point of starvation, as they have an intuitive sense of the danger of this food.
Europe banned a lot of the stuff, why haven't we? Russian scientists find third generation hamsters sterilized by GMO Soy. Using the same genetically modified (GM) soy that is produced on over 90 percent of the soy acreage in the US, the hamsters and their offspring were fed their respective diets over a period of two years, during which time the researchers evaluated three generations of hamsters. In the 2nd generation GM soy-fed hamsters had a five-fold higher infant mortality rate, compared to the 5 percent normal death rate that was happening in the controls. Nearly all the 3rd generation GMO fed hamsters were sterile. But it doesn't end there. In GM soy-fed groups they also found an unusually high prevalence of an otherwise extremely rare phenomenon – hair growing inside the animals' mouths.
Please remember humans have MUCH longer life spans than rats and that GMO foods were only introduced in 1996. This is LESS than one generation.
I asked a couple doctors about any problems coming from GMO foods, they responded that we're not doing anything new to our food today that we haven't been doing for thousands of years through selective breeding. Well...I recently found out that is false. Genetic Selection and Genetic Engineering are two completely different things. One we have been doing since man started farming thousands of years ago, and the other one is brand new, just a couple years old.
So tell me if you think the following are the same:
1.) Grow crops and take the seeds only from the plants that have more of the attributes you want (size, color, vitamins, etc). After doing this for several generations you can get a higher yield and better quality crops.
OR
2.) Take genes from various species of plants and animals, put them into gene guns, and blast millions of genes into a plate of millions of cells, and then clone the result into a plant. (This can cause hundreds or thousands of mutations up and down the DNA chain. Genes can be switched off, switched on permanently, or change their levels of expression – at random.)
Anyone who has ever taken a genetics course in college knows that DNA being shot out of a gun could potentially damage the DNA. Also, fundamental to the discipline is knowledge that just adding a gene to an organism can cause all kinds of things to go wrong - including turning on genes that were previously silent as well as turning others off that were beneficial.
GMO food is a real nightmare waiting to unfold. Apparently we don't have to worry though because Monsanto (the company who does genetic engineering on our food) says they did studies and GMO is not unsafe. Wow, that's not a conflict of interest...
Can you comment on this post please? Should there be a grass roots boycott on all GM food in the US? If we did there isn't a food producer that would continue to use GMO stuff.
the comment about higher yields...that is false. There is absolutely no studies that have been done that would prove a higher yield from GMO crops. In fact the opposite is true. Round-up-ready crops only cause the advance of the new "super-weed" which requires 4 times the amount of pesticide to be sprayed. But obviously, this will just lead to even stronger superweeds lowering crop yields.
Another unneccessary but interesting tidbit: Villages located in rural farming areas in India that plant Monsanto's GM seed are experiencing severe health problems to the point that the farmers themselves are committing suicides over the crops that Monsanto gave them. There was over 125,000 Indian farmer suicides. Not only that but the sheep and other animals that grazed on their GM cotton plants died within a few days.
All this and the FDA says there doesn't need to be any studies done on the safety of GMO food. Michael Taylor heads up FDA policy - but is former VP of Monsanto.

Selective Breeding Vs. Genetic Engineering - they are NOT the same. Read above.
I never said people wanted to kill millions of others. I said there are conflicts of interest involved at the highest levels, and some people are only about the money. Did you think we live in Mary Poppins land? Do you think all people do good and love their neighbors? Do you think all executives sacrfice billions in profit for the good of everyone? Especially if they can get away with it like they are?? Wake up buddy, you're living in a dream land. TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE POST BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY COMMENTS

You can in Europe, they have to label GMO foods by law.
Heh!
America is such a shit country, yet everyone here thinks it's amazing.

Sign me in . I have felt the same way. They do anyting to make money....

Was there a question in there somewhere? You don't like genetically altered food? Then kill off about half the population of the planet. Too many people to grow it the old fashioned way. All the bleeding heart hippies in the world can't refute the fact that genetically modified food produces a much greater yield. And unless you have a plan to wipe out most of Asia with no lasting environmental effect, you'll just have to live with it.

America is so controlled by big business that it is getting embarrassing.
Insurance companies own us just behind the auto industry and the big chemical/agri business, nothing gets in the way of their bottom line so I say find a way to get the paranoid psychotics in the insurance industry riled up somehow since they have the money and all we have is the brains and the make believe democracy...(not much to fight with, in America)
Help real farmers get the subsidiaries only big chemical farms get. Support efforts to take "welfare" away from those who grow with harmful chemicals and GMO's
Also you can:
Support local organic farmers and eat healthy raw or mildly processed foods and then there is nothing to worry about. And as a benefit, its the ethical, community minded and healthy choice for everyone.

Thanks for the laugh. Just keep believing that everything is controlled by "big business." It has nothing to do with the fact that small farmers simply can't compete with big farmers. Just dream that there are people who just sit in bed and think of ways to kill millions of people cause they think its fun.
Keep on buying "organic" foods, which are fertilized with all kinds of "natural" fertilizers.
125k suicides. . . . right. : )
PS, they've been doing genetic alterations for thousands of years. . . .its called selective breeding.
