Eosinophilic Colitis BUT ALSO affecting the Bladder? My little girl has Eosinophilic Disease in her digestive tract but also has severe bladder dysfunction. Anyone know of a connection between the two? Some Doctors say it's connected, some say it isn't. We feel it is, mainly because the symtoms came at the same time, it just seems SO connected to us. Many Doctors see this as a "New Illness" and I don't think enough is known about it yet, so I'm on the search for answers! thank you x

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis, as it's known in the US, is not a new disease per se but a relatively rare one. Since it's symptoms can masquerade as the irritable bowel syndrome. That being said there are a few schools of thought. One is that the urinary problems are not associated with EG because the eosinophills only attack the GI system (which the bladder is not part of). Another school of thought is that a rogue set of eosinophills break rank and actually attack the kidney system causing something known as Acute Interstitial Nephritis (although generally NOT associated with it). Yet another school of thought is that all the byproducts released by the eosinophills such as histamines, IgE, and various cytokines can cause problems in the urinary system such as retention or even outright kidney problems. You should know that both EG and AIN are treatable. I hope this help a little.
Sincerely,
Doc
