Does drinking water after food slow down digestion?I assume that water after eating will slow down digestion by diluting the stomach acid(s).

I always followed the advice that you should drink water before and during the meal, but not after.

You actually need large amounts of water to aid in digestion because it helps the food break up faster and it also helps your intestine's muscles to contract better. If you are still a little skeptical, try drinking water at room temperature. This will help because in order for your food to digest, it needs to be at body temperature. If you drink cold water, then your body will have to work to get it to the right temperature and THEN digest. Water is the best thing that you can consume so cheers and bottoms up!

There is no clear evidence that it does so. It's important to drink enough fluids, but not necessarily at meals. The stomach needs water to digest foods, but it draws in what it needs from the rest of the body, temporarily. Also, everything you eat contains water, even meats. Fruits and vegetables are upto 90% water. Drinking liquids with meals is a matter of preference.

Yes, but that won't do you any harm, within reason. It's healthier to drink more water than you need than not enough.
