Digestive troubles - what could be wrong with me?I'm 32 y/o. Starting yesderday i noticed pains in my lower abdominal area (mostly on the left side), i've also since then had bad smelling farts and four rather loose BMs that are as foul (after the initial which was more or less normal) as well as some minor flu-like symptoms: slight chills and muscle aches. The pain isn't constant though, it momentarily subsides when i'm relaxed and out and about doing things, after passing gas or after a BM... also been rather thirsty too (dry mouth).

I often feel hungry too but eating sometimes makes the pain worse.. Felt better late last night and had something to eat before setting off to sleep, but the pain returned this morning after waking up.. This appears to have all started more a week ago after eating at vegan potluck after which i didn't feel quite right and started experiencing abdominal discomfort, gas and some diarrhea for a few days after...then it went away and as i said above came back again, but since yesterday the intestinal spasms are more painful now than it was before.. Went in yesterday to a physician and she said colitis and suspects that i picked up some kind of bacteria or something from that potluck, and made up a rep for me to take in some stool samples which i submitted to the lab.. No blood in my stool so far.

Until a diagnosis is do any of you have an idea what it sounds like i'm describing (parasites maybe?)and what i could do in the mean time to help settle my gut as it could be a while before results come back on the stool test..

I dont know what that could be but for the time being try Metamucil. Works miracles for constipation & diarrhea. It settles the stomach and regulates your bowels.

Whenever I get sick at all I go on a water fast until I get better. It's a period of rest for your body, so that your body can stop focusing on digesting food and turn it's attention to fighting whatever is causing your discomfort. Water fasting is exactly what the name says, you don't eat anything and only drink water. If you can do it, I'm almost 100% sure you will heal quicker and probably avoid being put on any type of medication. If you don't believe water fasting will help, maybe you should try juice fasting, which is where you only drink fresh fruit/vegetable juice for a period of time. Or you could also try going on a raw diet for a while. The reason raw diets will help is because raw food has it's own enzymes as digests itself for the most part and makes your body work less on digestion and more on fighting you 'illness'. Hope I helped some. Good Luck!
