Digestive system questions? These are some revision questions I need help with:

1. What substances are present in the secretions from the salivary glands, gastric pits, gall bladder, intestinal glands and pancreatic juices? What is the purpose of the secretion from each?

2. Do you know how the pH varies throughout the digestive tract and how and why the variation is necessary?

3. Where does chemical digestion of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins occur? What enzymes are involved in the digestion of the organic compounds?

4. Could you describe the digestion and parts of digestive system involved in digestion and absorption of either carbohydrates, lipids or proteins?

Thanks for any help!

1.Saliva has enzyme amylase to break down carbs ,gastric juics has strong Hcl , digestive enzymes like pepsin n renin n Hcl adjusts the pH for normal working of enzymes n antimicrobial activity.Bile, which emulsifies fats to allow absorption, neutralizes the chyme and is used to excrete waste products such as bilin and bile acids.Pancreatic juice is a liquid secreted by the pancreas, which contains a variety of enzymes, including trypsinogen, chymotrypsinogen, elastase, carboxypeptidase, pancreatic lipase, and amylase.Intestinal enzymes of the alkaline mucosal membranes. The enzymes include maltase, lactase and sucrase (all three of which process only sugars), trypsin and chymotrypsin.
Stomach is acidic gor activation of enzymes n antimicrobial activityAs the pH level changes in the small intestines and gradually becomes basic, more enzymes are activated further that chemically break down various nutrients into smaller molecules to allow absorption into the circulatory or lymphatic systems.
Chemical digestion takes place in stomach n small intestine and all the enzymes given above are involved in organic compounds.
Fat digestion in small intestine ,carbs in stomach n proteins in stmoach n small intestine n all the absorption part is done in small intestine through microvilli in lining.
Hope this helps(^_^)

1. Bile I think or pepsin or another enzyme.

2. Yes I did know that, it is to aid the breakdown of substances. I.e. there is HCl in the stomach to breach down food while in the mouth it is generally neutral.

3. carbohydrates in the mouth and further in the intestine by amylase. Lipids in the large intestine by lipase. And proteins in the stomach by pepsin.

4.lipids are broken down into fatty acids by lipase and obsorbed by Villi in the large intestine.

What do you think? Answer below! Facts and information on the human digestive system including how it works and related digestion health problems.
