Digestive problems in infants...?I have a 7 month old son who from birth has had problems pooping. He didn't have a bowel movement until he was 2 days old and I had to coax it out of him. He is allergic to milk, and yes it's an allergy been confirmed by my pediatrician. When we were in the hospital he never kept a bottle down, which led us to think that's why he took so long to poop. When I brought him home I put him on Soy. He did fine for about a month then he started having problems going. It seemed increasingly hard for him to get anything out and was always ripping his rectum. From the time he was 1 month to the time he was about 5 months I did everything from juice, water, stimulation, suppositories, you name it I tried it until one day it just didn't work anymore. I was advised to switch to a Hypoallergenic formula which we did. We started around Thanksgiving with Alimentum and I never saw a change. Around Christmas I switched to Nutramigen and it was like night and day. For about 4 weeks he did great. His doctor suggested we try milk formula again, this was before she learned it was an allergy and believed it was just a protein sensitivity issue. We did this on January 21st. He has been a mess ever since. Around the time he got "better" we had all come down with a stomach virus with horrible diarreha and now I'm thinking that maybe he didn't get better at all maybe he just had the stomach bug.
I stopped all solids and juices. Water I discovered does nothing but make him pee more so that's pointless. Right now his doctor is advising that I give him adult prune juice. I've been doing it since Thurday night and things have actually gotten worse. Our next step is to see a specialist and have testing done on his colon. Have any other parents had to go through this? And if you have what did they find. I have no idea what I am looking for and get a million different things when I type in a broad search. Can someone point me in a direction, any direction.

You need to see a Gastroenterology Specialists, have your Pediatrician refer you. Tell them that you want to see one and it is important. Don't take no for an answer!
