I've been Type 2 since 1989.
I'm not sure if it can be totally prevented.Mine came about at the age of 31,a very unuusal age.I do know when i get nervous,my sugar levels will go high.If I don't get enough sleep, again the sugar levels get high.
Losing weight, and excersizing are good ways to control it,and sometimes, cure it.
Yes I take Glyb Metformin.
LOL whoever thumbs downed me,do you have a problem or what?

it is when body doesnt USE the insulin it makes. leads to insulin resistance. treatment is a no-carb diet and lots of exercise and metformin. there is a link to PCOSA also

Diabetes type 2 is usually developed in people over the age of 30, but younger people than that can also get it. Having someone else that is diabetic in your family increases your risk of getting it. It was usually thought that those who were overweight with a sedentary lifestyle were most prone to develop this disease. Very recent studies show that about 51% of type 2 diabetics were not overweight before being diagnosed. In many cases the disease itself causes weight gain. It can also cause severe weight loss. In type 2, the pancreas does one of 2 things....it sometimes does not make enough insulin. The cause of this is not really understood, but we do know that taking certain drugs and steroids for any good length of time can cause development of type 2 diabetes earlier than it normally would have developed in the person. Sometimes the pancreas will make enormous amounts of insulin, but the body does not use it correctly. This is insulin resistance. The treatment for type 2 diabetes is sometimes just diet and exercise for many years. Usually later in life, the person that controls their disease this way will have to take some kind of medication. Usually this type of diabetes is treated with oral medications. Sometimes it is treated with insulin, or insulin and oral medications. It can be very hard to control sometimes. A person with type 2 diabetes must watch their diet very carefully and get daily exercise of some sort. All diabetics should check their blood sugar at least 6 times a day to make sure their blood sugar is under control. A diabetic that does not have controlled blood sugar can have diseases of the eye, kidneys, nerve damage, heart disease, and gum disease.
