Biology question. Please help. :(?the subunits of virtually all organic molecules are joined by condensation reactions and can be broken apart by hydrolysis reactions. Why, then, does your digestive system produce separate enzymes to digest proteins, fats, and carbohydrates – in fact, several of each type?
I have an idea but I need more information. Thanks. :D

Haven't done Bio for a while but isn't it because the enzymes act as catalysts? Therefore the body requires different enzymes for each reaction because each reaction requires a different catalyst?

Enzymes are specific to which reactions they may catalyze. Study the lock and key-model suggested by Emil Fischer...the enzyme and the substrate need to have complementary shapes to fit together in order for the catalyst reaction to occur...its like fitting together two puzzle pieces
