2 year old constipation ??my son was first constipated at 3 months old . hes almost 2 and wont got for days and still needs help getting it out (its always very big and rock hard) & its too big to get out that he sometimes has a little bit of blood. i feel horrible for him . i told the doctor who gave me stool softener that worked for a while but no longer does. im def. looking into this further and want to take him to a specialist for this problem . what other reasons might there be for this intense constipation ? im afraid maybe his digestive system or colon maybe ? does anyone elses kids have/has this problem ?
p.s. hes already potty trained mostly hell have an occasional accident here or there , if it makes any difference . so its not like hes a little baby so its a little hard to keep trying to help the poor boy poop =(

make sure his dr gets you a referral to digestive specialist. celiac disease along w other digestive disorders can cause this. my soon to be 3 yo started this way at 13 months after he switched from nursing to whole milk and table food. have you asked about mirilax? stool softeners are pointless if he possibly is impacted, meaning stool is right there in the rectum. does your son have a swollen stomach, crying in pain or under weight? his dr should have been on top of this a long time ago. this is serious and requires more than what a traditional dr can handle. i had to stop giving my son whole milk and give him more high fiber foods, cut out bananas and apple sauce, both binding foods. my son's constipation was so bad at 13 months, he went from 21 lbs to 15 in 3 weeks, we too had a stupid dr who insisted he would recover and go regularly when ready.
a digestive and feeding disorder/ celiac specialist was ready to have my son taken from me until i stood up for myself and lay ed the blame on his dr because you can not go anywhere wo a referral. he was so dehydrated and it took 6 months to get him straight, 3 weeks of intensive cleaning out helped him. He only needs mirilax occasionally.
Please insist on a trip to a specialist who can save your son.
my son was treated at university of maryland medical system by the best in the field, dr blanchard, world renowned for her research of this disorder. umms has a website and you can search her name and celiac disease.

I know many parents do not like to use juice but try giving him some 100 % grape juice or some other kind 100% real juice and not a Capri Sun to get him to go. My son will get that way sometimes and all I have to do is give him a grape juice box and a few hrs later he will go. Try giving him juice 1x a day to see if it helps him go. Now if I just let my son drink 100% juice all day he'll get diarrhea not fun for him at all. If the juice does not work then go back to the Dr and ask for him to be seen by a specialist.
