The main functions of the Excretory System is to 1) maintain homeostasis: regulating body temperature, water and nitrogen levels, etc and 2) get rid of wastes/toxins that the body doesn't need.

The kidneys, ureter, urinary bladder, and urethra are all part of the excretory system. The skin is also an organ in the excretory system (excretes sweat mainly).

There are probably an infinite number of things that can go wrong with the excretory system. Some more common diseases include:
-Gout: when body accumulates unusual amount of uric acid (caused by kidneys not excreting enough uric acid)
-Nephritis/Nephrosis: inflammation of a part of the kidney called the nephron, more specifically is the inflammation of the glomerulus in the nephron.
-Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): caused by a bacteria such as E. Coli in the urethra
-Kidney Stones: a buildup of calcium that basically gets stuck in the urethra
-Renal Failure: When the kidneys stop working (could be caused by number of different ways, also may be genetic). Dialysis or Kidney transplant are the only cures for acute renal failure.
