The stomach grinds and dissolves your food into chyme- the product that is absorbed in the intestines. the top of the stomach (cardia and fundus) is not as strong as the bottom (pyloric region), as the strongest gastric contractions originate in the bottom. The stomach will secrete intrinsic factor (to prevent breakdown of vitamin B), gastrin, mucous (for protection of both the stomach and intestine) and will utilize enteroglucagon, Gastric inhibitory peptide, Cholecystokinin, and Secretin though they are not actually produced in the stomach.
