Slow digestion?I was born to a family of people who have slow metabolisms (very Kapha, in the Ayurvedic sense) and I eat very little and exercise a lot just to maintain a normal weight. Sometimes, though, if I eat too much, my digestion gets very slow and I just feel disgustingly full for days, even if I don't eat much. My acupuncturist says it's "deficient spleen," if that helps explain things.
What kinds of herbs or other alternative remedies work for slow digestion? I have "Eater's Digest" tea, which works really well, and I have used a lot of ginger root. Any other ideas? Or any yoga positions? I'm recovering from a knee injury so I can't just work out like crazy.

Try that Activia stuff from Dannon. It's a yogurt that's supposed to regulate your digestive system in two weeks.

Consider taking a fiber supplement.

Abdominal distress is a big issue for a lot of people. We should drink at least 8 glasses of pure water everyday, mainly between meals, if you drink too many liquids with a meal, digestive enzymes are diluted. Eating high roughage food helps hold moisture in the bowel, giving the muscles of the bowel physical material to propel along its approximately 26 feet in length. Eating rich fatty meals stresses the stomach, gallbladder, and pancreas, which slows down digestion and allows bacterium to begin fermentation and putrefaction in the bowel. Over eating in the evening hours, or eating in a hurry, packs food in the stomach before nerve and hormone stimulation can properly begin the digestive process. Eating several small meals a day, is much better than eating too much at one time. Experts recommend that 20 to 30 grams of fiber per day is advisable for adults. The average American eats approximately 7.3 grams of fiber each day. You need a really good fiber supplement, and you need to take it every day. You would also benefit from a good flora, to take every day. For over all health you should be on a good vitamin and mineral complex, they are not all created equal, so do some research. Green tea is another good thing to drink, settles your stomach, and gives you good health. Stay away from caffeine drinks, sugar, sugar substitutes, preservatives, prepared foods, and fast foods. As your knee heals, try to walk, walking is one of the best exercises you can do. Hope this information helps you.

Any torso twisting yoga position is going to enhance your digestive system activity. Ginger is great to speed up digestion, peppermint and yerba mate also work well. These are all great in tea form. Have you heard of "smooth move" tea by Traditional Medicinals? Check out the tea section of your local grocery store. For Kapha's, if you enjoy spicy foods, they can be very benefical to you. They will speed up your metabolic rate and help you digest food more quickly (cayenne, chili powder, hot sauce, salsa, etc.)

It may not be how much you are eating but what you are eating that is bothering you. Drinking hot or even room temperature drinks with your meals and avoiding cold or icy drinks will also help keep your digestion moving. When you drink cold beverages, it slows down your digestion.
