One year old with digestive troubles since starting table food...?My son is close to 13 months old. He has been eating table food at home for awhile, but they just started giving it to him at daycare. Since he has been eating only regular food he has had several bouts of diarrhea and diaper rash. He has a particularly nasty diaper rash now. I know that mandarin oranges give it to him, so I stopped feeding those, but as for everything else will this go away as he adjusts to everything? I feel bad for him.

Acidic foods--like oranges, tomatoes, strawberries--frequently give kids diaper rash because of all the acid. His digestive tract is still figuring out what to do with all these different foods, so it may take some time. Treat the diaper rash with diaper rash ointment and try to keep him away from the foods you know bother him. If this continues to be a problem, I'd call your ped and ask them if they have any ideas. Good luck!

yeah, cut down on the acidic foods. my daughter was the same way when she had too many tomatoes.

Take your child to his Dr. 13 months is too young for solid food. When My children were this age, I fed them soft "finger foods" or Jr. Baby Food. For one thing, they did not have enough teeth to eat solid food. For another, our Dr. advised soft finger food or Jr. Baby Food. As for the mandarin oranges, this could be an allergy, and it could be that oranges are hard to digest.
