Is it ok to take a digestive enzyme supplement containing cellulase? As far as I know, the human body can not digest cellulose because it lacks the enzyme, and instead uses the cellulose as a fiber to add bulk. So wouldn't taking a digestive enzyme supplement which contains cellulase (most ones I find do contain it) reduce fiber in the diet, or otherwise not be beneficial because you're making the digestive system do something it's not naturally meant to do? Thanks!

I think the point of confusion is that Cellulose is more than JUST dietary fiber... it's the makeup of most plant material. If you had no Cellulase in your system, you wouldn't digest much of any part of vegetables which means you wouldn't get most of the nutrients including the carbs, vitamins, minerals, etc.
Cellulase isn't in enzyme complexes to break down dietary fiber (which is one type of plant fiber, but not the only kind)... the body still wouldn't do that even with Cellulase. It's just in there to help break down all sorts of different plant-based materials. I hope I helped!
