how serious is depression?and how many types are there? ive heard of 'clinical depression'. how serious is it? will it keep getting worse (i assume so). so i looked stuff up on the net about depression and there were these symptoms:
Persistently sad, anxious, or "empty" mood.
* Feelings of hopelessness, pessimism.
* Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness.
* Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed, including sex.
* Insomnia, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping.
* Decreased appetite and/or weight loss, or overeating and weight gain.
* Fatigue, decreased energy, being "slowed down."
* Thoughts of death or suicide, suicide attempts.
* Restlessness, irritability.
* Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions.
* Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as headaches, digestive disorders, and chronic pain."
when i was reading it, i was going 'exactly!' for every line.
it might sound silly, but im really confused right now. people say that i should go to a doc and get meds from depression. but i dont know how to talk to my parents about it. i dont think they will take it seriously.
and do i really have depression or am i just being a normal 'moody and angry teenager' as my mom calls me.
any advice welcome
just wanted to say that how i feel has been going on for weeks if not months, first it was not that bad, i could control how i feel, than slowly it started getting worse, now most of the time i feel tired and sad, i dont feel like doing anything, i can just lay in bed the whole day. so should i take this seriously or as my mom says 'cheer up and dont be so angry all the time' -.-what should i do?

If you think you're depressed, you probably are. Depression is treatable, but be careful. Some people are bipolar, and an antidepressant can cause a manic episode. Talk to your parents about how seriously you are taking this. Show them the above list. If they absolutely won't take you seriously, talk to your school guidance counselor.

I would also suggest you see a doctor. They will be able to diagnose you better. Often times, parents don't understand-sometimes they go into denial. But you must be persistent. If your parents can't take you, make the appointment yourself. It is better to seek help then to leave it alone. You don't deserve to feel so terrible.
Blessings and best of luck.

I have gone through 3 or 4 major depressive phases in the last 6 years. It WILL get worse. Depression isn't usually something that just clears up on its own. I hit rock bottom with each of those phases and tried to commit suicide.
If this has been going on for weeks/months, it's time to reach out. I was in the exact same boat as you. My mom just called me a typical teen, but when I had my first attempt, she said, "why didn't you tell me it was that bad?" Your parents want what's best for you, so talk to them. Be honest and open, you could even print off those symptoms and go through them one-by-one.
If you simply can't talk to them, I suggest talking to another trusted adult. A teacher, school counselor, or maybe a family friend.
The main thing to do is not give up, keep talking and bugging people until someone finally listens. You don't want to hit rock bottom.

depression is DEADLY serious. if you feel that some or many of these symptoms are you tell your parents now.
medication may NOT be the answer for you. it is NOT the only answer. sometimes it is a GREAT answer, sometimes NOT... PLEASE read on:
