How long does it take for the digestive system to run though it's cycle.?

How long does it take for the digestive system to run though it's cycle.?I have recently been diagnosed with Pancreatitis. I am receiving treatment for it. Some times i eat something i shouldn't. My Dr. said once the cycle is started, it has to run it's course. I would like to know how long does it take that "course" to run.
