-digests food
-absorbs nutrients
-excretes waste
-mainly muscle tissue; used to move food throughout, while it finds its way out of the body.
-mouth- secretes saliva to help chew, swallow and release enzymes to break down food.
-esophagus- moves food to the stomach
-stomach- digests food with acids and absorbs nutrients
-intestines - while moving through the intestines, it converts the food to energy. when moved to the lower intestine, it goes to the rectum and anus where it is then excreted.
pancreas- excretes bile which help to break down fats, proteins, and carbs.
-diverticulitis. look it up.

Function of Digestive System:
* The primary function of the digestive system is to break down the food we eat into smaller parts so the body can use them to build and nourish cells and provide energy.
Two solid organs, the liver and the pancreas, produce digestive juices that reach the intestine through small tubes. In addition, parts of other organ systems (for instance, nerves and blood vessels) play a major role in the digestive system.
I'm not sure answer to (describe major cell structure/type)-there is one cell that is specialized for digestive system called "colar cell"i believe.

There are several parts that make up the digestive system. Your stomach breaks down the food you eat into small particles. After leaving your stomach, the food particles travel to the small intestine. As the small intestine continues to digest the food, it absorbs nutrients that your body uses for energy, growth, and repairs. What's left of the food then travels to the colon, where water is removed. Finally, these waste products leave the body through the anus as stool when you have a bowel movement.
Smoking Cigarettes is bad for Digestive system as well as for all other systems in human body, it is just hazard to our body period.
IT causes many life-threatening diseases, including lung cancer, colon cancer, emphysema, and heart disease.
Smoking can harm all parts of the digestive system, contributing to such common disorders as heartburn and peptic ulcers. Smoking increases the risk of Crohn's disease, and possibly gallstones, which form when liquid stored in the gallbladder hardens into pieces of stone-like material.
