Digestive problems while menstruating?I'm aware that diarrhea is a common side affect of menstruation- for several reasons. and it's something i've suffered from for years.
but for as long as I can remember I've also suffered from chronic constipation (and suspected IBS).
when these two things mix during menstruation...it's nothing short of hellish misery.
I end up having to have a bowel movement very often due to the diarrhea, but thanks to the constipation it's still very painful and that sick "drained" stomach feeling people suffer after regular diarrhea is doubled for me. I usually end up having to lie down for a while because i feel so sick and, for lack of a better term, crappy.
I don't know how to remedy this. I drink electrolyte supplements often during this time to keep me hydrated, but if i try to eat laxative foods (fruits, fiber etc.) it attributes to the sickening feeling because of the increased diarrhea but without it the constipation is worsened (as that will never really be cured)
any ideas? remedies? suggestions?
doctors haven't been much help to me with my Digestive problems in the past..so I would like to avoid them.
I'm a very active person- I'm a professional dancer and get excercise everyday and obviously have to stay very hydrated. I always drink lots of water. people tell me that about constipation all the time...that's not whats causes it.

my kids dr.always recomends the BRAT diet when they have stomach
problems.it is bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. i would also recomend for you to start eating yogart. it is very good for the digestion. you can even buy pills containing acidoplhilus, this is the ingredient in yogart. try to eat a very balanced diet.alot of us dont get the daily amounts of
fruits, veggies etc. also drink lots of water. alot of people are constipated due to not drinking enough fluids.a daily walk or some kind
of exercise will also help. on the flip side im wondering if it might not
be a food allergy or IBS. if the recomendations i gave you dont help visit a doctor. a lot of stomach problems can be solved by diet. also make sure you are getting the right amount of calcium.

I would suggest that what you try is drinking some ginger ale,it help to settle your stomach. It could be the combination of eating fiber and drinking the electrolyte is only adding to your problems.Try drinking a ton of water,it flushes out all of the toxins from your body as well as keeping you hydrated,it can also help ward off headaches along with fatigue.Try the water instead of drinking the electrolyte, this may make a difference for you.Hope this help you out.
