Can lack of protein cause problems with the digestive tract?I hardly ever get any protein and I have started eating more veggies and fruits. I have also started working out everyday. My problem is every 3-4 days I get a mild case of diarehha. It is not bad enough that it keeps me from doing anything, I'm just trying to figure out what I am doing to cause it. I have also gotten hives on my fingers and toes lately.... could my immune system be weakened by my lack of protein?

By what you said, I would guess that you are experiencing a mild cleansing effect from the lack of dense, meat protein, and the addition of the water rich vegetables. This is a normal effect of such a diet change. All the extra water in your body that doesnt have to digest and breakdown a dense protein, along with the water from the vegs, is providing you with a mild cleanse, which is a good thing. If you are worried about lack of protein eat a combination of chick peas or kidney beans with brown or wild rice. This combination will give you the full spectrum of 22 essential amino acids (building blocks of protein) to repair and regenerate anything in your body, mainly muscles, which are protein based. You may also want to include fresh, raw fruit into your diet as they are rich in enzymes, like vegetables, and will speed your digestive process, and subsequently your metabolism, giving you a constant supply of complete energy from the diet choices you make. If you still are concerned about your digestive tract, you can supplement with L-glutamine powder which is the most abundant amino acid in the intestines. It can become depleted if you have illness or an injury requiring tissue repair, as l-glutamine is drawn from the intestines to heal those afflictions. If you work out strenuously, on a weekly basis, L-glutamine supplementation is a necessity to repair/heal broken down muscle tissue to make them grow and become stronger. I beleive you have nothing to worry about. To ensure you are taking in enough water aside from dietary, you should consume1/2 oz of water for every pound of bodyweight you have. This will ensure you are properly hydrated, and expediate your cleansing reaction as well. Good Luck
