Can i feed my rabbits fresh papaya, or does it have to be the dried ones.?I have lion-head rabbits, and i just read a whole bunch of info about fur-ball and GI Tract problems. Itʻs a lot easier for me to get fresh papaya then it is to get the dried ones. I also plan to give them fresh pineapple if possible. Please let me know.

It's OK to give your rabbit fresh papaya or fresh pineapple, but keep the amount small. Some rabbit feeds have papaya in them already, so check the ingredients on your feed bag. You don't really need to feed more than a piece that is about a 3/4" cube. If you feed too much fresh fruit it can give your rabbit diarrhea. Giving your rabbit hay or straw to eat will also help reduce the chance of hairballs causing your rabbit any problems.
Normally you only have to worry about hair balls on wool breed rabbits. Most wool breed rabbit formulas have papaya in them for that reason.
You can also get papaya tablets for your rabbit to eat. You can find them at almost any health food store and sometimes around the pharmaceutical counter of a store.

I have a lionhead as well. He refuses to eat dried papaya so I feed him a little bit of fresh along with pineapple. He also loves the papaya tablets and it keeps the hair he ingests moving.
