bulimia and abnormal liver disorders?Im just coming to terms with the fact that I do have a eating disorder, I m now having tests done to see what damage I have caused to myself and one of my results has come back with a possible abnormal liver disorder, is this connected with my bulimia, if so, what should I to save my liver, and how can I overcome bulimia?
please help

Yes, it's possible that bulimia has caused liver disorders because anemia which could result from bulimia will cause decreased oxygenation of your liver leading to reduced functional capacity of the liver to regenerate and detoxify whatever you ingest; inability to detoxify the toxins will damage the liver and your body. The liver is a very very high metabolic organ that requires a lot of oxygen and energy. The fact that you vomit not only reduces the energy that you are consuming, it is also likely that you are reducing intrinsic factor secretion from the stomach and ultimately, Vitamin B12 absorption (which is absorbed through intrinsic factor). Vitamin B12 is necessary to reproduce folate in the body constantly and folate is required to produce nucleotides for DNA synthesis, which happens at a very high rate in red blood cell production. Reduction in red blood cell production because of low intrinsic factor -> low B12 -> low folate -> low nucleotides -> low DNA can results in Pernicious, Macrocytic anemia. The anemia reduces oxygen delivery in the body resulting in your liver to choke and become fibrotic (which is the case in many liver diseases). This is especially important in women since y'all menstruate and are already losing iron as it is, which can also 'cause anemia and exacerbated with low iron supplementation. Choking of the liver has another danger since the liver receives that full blunt of all the toxins in the body. If the liver cannot do its job properly, the toxins that are passing through it can damage it.
See a therapist. I was also bulimic in high school, there I said it, but it is so not worth what it did to my body especially my teeth. If you having trouble seeking help, at least take vitamins.
Here are other long term consequences of bulimia that i told another guy (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ah6QWFVFUi_qWS9SRBHuXBbty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090211115221AA9N0jf&show=7#profile-info-KyRiSEKyaa)
esophageal metaplasia - Barrett's esophagus which can increase your susceptibility to esophageal cancer. Vomiting can also cause arrhythmias through vagal efferent response to heart following induced vomiting and GI stimulation, metabolic alkalosis due to increased HCO3 output to blood from HCl secretion compensation by stomach which can also increase respiratory rate/pulse rate/cardiac output/blood pressure, enamel wear, and nutritional deficiency particularly B12, iron, and Calcium since absorption of these minerals are dependent on stomach pH and factors secreted by oxyntic cells such as intrinsic factor, gastroferrin, transferrin, calcium binding protein
ya, well throwing up one a week doesnt mean that the damage caused will be cured the day after or a week after. the damages are cummulative!!!!! your enamels do not regenerate, your esophagus will sustain regular damage from throwing up the week before and get worst if you throw up a week after, and the factors that i said are only secreted in response to mechano and chemo-stimulation of the stomach which you eliminate by throwing up. the reason i bring up esophageal varices and metaplasia is because the stimuli for acid secretion by the stomach is largely by nervous and hormonal stimulation. If you throw up your food, hormones (gastrin, histamine) that were produced after swallowing and filling of the stomach remains in circulation in the blood causing continuous secretion of acids even though your stomach is empty. there is no bicarbonate secretion in the stomach so that large pool of acid meant to digest the food remains there, and what do you think it eats up instead? esophageal and stomach lining!!!!!
this is exacerbated by aspirin or any pain killer use (COX inhibitors). i know athletes that abuse this drug or use it inappropriately, well, if you couple this with hyperacidity from throwing up, you're eliminating prostaglandin effect in the stomach which can lead to gastric ulcers!!!
And this is additional info about macrocytic anemia that i told another ggirl (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlfPoAJKWbNbCnFB2b8eRRbty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090213025651AAaZXxQ&show=7#profile-info-9la6Oh53aa)
Macrocytic anemia is almost always caused by a vitamin b12 and folic acid deficiency. Your body constantly produces red blood cells and so RBC precursors must divide at a very high rate. The cells enlarge because folate, a molecule that donates a carbon to nucleotide rings during DNA synthesis, is either absent or too low to support normal physiologic need. Vitamin B12 is used as cofactor to produce folate in the body. Before mitosis or cellular division, the cells enlarge to about twice their size so that there is adequate amount of resources for two daughter cells, BUT, if the DNA is not enough for two daughter cells because nucleotides are deficient (low vitamin b12 causes low folate causing low nucleotides) for complete DNA replication, the cell does not divide and remain enlarged (basically it's stuck in interphase).
